Confidentiality and Ethics

You can speak openly and honestly and I will keep what you say confidential. There is a limit to confidentiality when there is a risk of harm to you or someone else. In this situation there may be occasion for some information to be shared with relevant parties to ensure the safety of you or someone else. Wherever possible, you will be consulted with before information is shared.

I work to a code of ethical values and principles of the professional body of counsellors I belong to. This means that I will respect your dignity, work in partnership with you, encourage you to make your own decisions, be honest and respect cultural diversity. More information can be found at NZCCA.

I take notes during our sessions. They will be stored securely where no one else has access. Records are stored for 10 years before being destroyed. In accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and the Health (Retention of Health Information) Regulations 2020 you have the right to ask for personal information such as counsellor's notes by making an access request. More information about this is available upon request.

“You have taught me well and I’m using different tools, techniques and routines to keep me going. I’m very happy to say that I’m enjoying the journey now.”
